I’ve been shopping for some of the basics which I didn’t have, and ordered some other stuff online when it’s cheaper or when I can’t get it in supermarkets. I also ordered some stem glasses as I’ve only got some whisky tumblers and normal glasses for drinking juice and water – highball glasses I guess.
I’ve downloaded a cocktail app, which seems a good way to browse recipes and get started. And, unlike a book, I don’t have to wait for it to be delivered.
I wanted to start with something simple, something slightly vintage, and something making use of my newly purchased coupe glasses. Of those which met the criteria, I picked this creation from my cocktail app at random based on what I had.
- 2 oz London dry gin
- 1/2 oz triple sec
- 1/2 oz grenadine
- 1/4 oz lemon juice
- 1/2 oz chilled mineral water
Shake all the ingredients with ice then fine strain into a cocktail glass.
It’s just overpowering. I have a sweet tooth, but this is too much. I’m guessing it’s the grenadine I’m tasting so strongly. I didn’t drink more than a few sips. It wasn’t nice and wasn’t getting better. Richard never pours alcohol away, but didn’t finish this.
Not a good start.
