El Burro

I’m off to a party later. It’s a late starter, so I thought I’d try out a long drink before heading there. I know I like tequila, and I know I like ginger beer, so this seems perfect.

  • 2 oz Tequila blanco
  • 1/2 oz Lime juice
  • 1/4 oz Sugar syrup
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Ginger beer

Method: Shake first four ingredients with ice and strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Top with ginger beer (about 2 shots I guess.)

As expected, I liked the taste of the tequila (and you can definitely taste it) and I liked the taste of the ginger beer. Lime goes with both. It’s nice. I had two. It made me think how amazing Dark ‘n’ Stormy is though. In that drink the rum and ginger set each other off and alchemy happens. The constituent parts of this El Burro are just as good, but mixing them together doesn’t add to them.

Update: I wouldn’t recommend having two of these and then drinking a few beers, followed by a bottle of red wine, two glasses of champagne and a couple of ciders. The best I can say is that I made it home without falling in the river.
