  • 1.5 oz Bourbon
  • 3/4 oz Apple Schnapps
  • 3/4 oz Red/Sweet Vermouth
  • 1 oz bitters

Stir in a mixing glass with ice, until well-chilled. Strain into a tumbler over ice and garnish with Maraschino cherry.

New York NYThe other half asked for a whiskey drink, strong and short. I wasn’t ready for a Manhattan.

I don’t really know the correct technique to stir drinks like these, but I’ve realised there’s an art to it, rather than just combining alcohol and seeing if it tastes good.

It was okay, but didn’t seem to mesh very well. I don’t have a top notch vermouth, and in a drink like this it must make a big difference. I later also realised that vermouth shouldn’t be kept open long and should be in the fridge. The bottle I used had been and wasn’t. I will leave off the Manhattan variations until I get something good to use in them.
