Rangoon Fizz

This drink was created by Toby Maloney at the Violet Hour bar in Chicago, USA. I found the recipe on this forum, where the creator has shared several recipes from his bar. It’s one of the most fascinating and brilliant resources I’ve found. I’d want to make most of these, but many of the drinks require house-made elements that I don’t have the ingredients for at the moment. This one was something I could make straight away.

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 3/4 oz Ginger syruprangoon-fizz
  • 1 oz Lime juice
  • 9 drops Angostura bitters
  • 5 sprigs Mint
  • 2 oz Tonic water

Shake everything except the tonic. Strain into a glass over ice, add the tonic and garnish with mint.

Even a few months ago I wouldn’t have liked this much, as it’s pretty dry. There is lots of spice from the ginger, and that is right up my street. I used some homemade ginger syrup that didn’t contain a lot of sugar, so what I made could have done with being a shade sweeter, but that is not the fault of the recipe and this was still a lovely drink. I’m definitely getting more of a taste for gin.
